The History of Kalispell Cruise

Cruising Through the Years: The Kalispell Cruise Tradition Lives On
For generations, cruising Main Street in Kalispell has been a cherished local tradition. From the golden era of American muscle in the 1960s and 1970s to the compact imports and tuners of the 2000s, Friday night in Kalispell meant one thing: showing up and rolling down Main, with windows down, music loud, and headlights glowing under the Montana twilight.
While the tradition faded over the decades, it never truly disappeared. Then, in the spring of 2020, at the height of COVID lockdowns, Cruise Kalispell returned with new life. With few options for gathering indoors, the community reclaimed the streets in a socially distanced, nostalgic way. Since then, it’s become a weekly event, running every Friday night from 7–9 p.m., drawing out classic cars, modern builds, and the next generation of cruisers alike.
Kalispell Volkswagen is proud to see some of our vehicles becoming part of this ongoing ritual. In particular, the VW GTI has built a reputation within the local cruise scene for its blend of precision, power, and Euro flair. You’ll often find groups of GTI drivers rolling through Main together, honoring the past while representing the next wave of Kalispell’s car culture.
As a fixture in the Flathead Valley, Kalispell Volkswagen celebrates the ways our community blends history and horsepower. Whether you’re restoring a classic or driving a new GTI daily, we’ll see you Friday night on Main!
